Podiatric Skin Conditions

Many of the same dermatologic conditions that occur on different parts of the body can occur on your foot and ankle.  Often times they are missed due the fact that feet are covered with shoes and socks and sometimes neglected from exam.  The foot also has its own set of bacterial and fungal flora unique to its location due in part to them being in a dark, warm, moist environment most of the day.   Interdigital infections (in between the toes) involving bacteria and fungi are also common due to the close proximity of the toes to each other.

What are common skin conditions of the foot and ankle?

  • Fungal infections

  • Blisters (usually due to friction or deformity)
